Church raises funds for renovations

2018-04-20 06:00

THE Methodist Church of Southern Africa Mt Hargreaves 1327 circuit in Matatiele will be hosting a gospel extravaganza this Saturday to raise money for renovating a historic church building in Sigoga village in Matatiele.

The gospel show will be held in Matatiele Town Hall from 4 pm until late.

The church was built by Reverend Hargreaves in 1875 for the community of Matatiele and surrounding areas to use as a school and a place of worship, however, now the buildings are dilapidated.

“We need R800 million to renovate this old building in December. We request donations from different people because our church building is old and it does not look good at all,” said Dr Vivian Kok, of Mt Hargreaves 1327.

Dr Kok said that there were many doctors and professors who were “groomed” by the church and it was now time to give back by investing in the church. Kok said that the historic building was not going to be demolished but would be renovated for future generations. “We want to have a training centre for our congregants to attend training sessions after church as well as a boardroom for church meetings,” said Dr. Kok.

The president of the Mt Hargreaves 1327 circuit, Reverend Reginald
Pupuma , Mlamli Gugwana, and the vice president of the church will be the guest speakers at the event.

Congregants from other circuits and pastors are invited to attend. For more information contact Dr. Kok on
