ON Tuesday, the mayor of the Harry Gwala District Municipality, Mluleki Ndobe, and officials from the KwaZulu-Natal government, responded to calls to address service-delivery problems in the Ixopo area following residents’ complaints.

In recent weeks, the Ixopo community has been demanding better roads and electricity from the government as the community of Hlanzeni and some farm areas in Ixopo are still without electricity.

At a public meeting held in the Shayamoya area in Ward 4 on Wednesday, government officials promised to attend to all problems faced by the community, including issues related to the Department of Transport. The KZN Premier’s Office promised to form a task team to work with Eskom to fast-track electricity problems. “The municipality decided to bring the KZN government to [the area] to respond to the service-delivery problems,” said Ndobe.

People thanked the government for its efforts in addressing their needs.
