Community to be aware of scams

2018-07-20 06:01

MATATIELE police have sent out a scam warning following an influx of scam reports in the area. According to the SAPS, a number of people have lost money through these alleged scams.

“People have been cheated via cellphone and Internet,” said SAPS spokesman Captain Raphael Motloung. Motloung said people have received text messages about winning R 10 million from an overseas competition and, in order to obtain the money, they needed to deposit a certain amount into a bank account. He also added that some people have also been fraudulently offered jobs.

“People must not give out their ID numbers to strangers who promise things,” said Motloung, adding that people must also be aware of false adverts and job offers on the internet. — Supplied.
