Court manager retires

2018-05-04 06:00

KOKSTAD Magistrate’s Court manager, Nomsa Qwathekana (59), was described as a brave and strong woman during her farewell party held in Kokstad on Wednesday.

Qwathekana took early retirement to look after her family and to participate in community development.

Qwathekana joined the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development as Ixopo Magistrate’s Court manager in 2006 and in 2010 she was transferred to the Kokstad Magistrate’s Court.

Speaking to the Fever at the event,
Qwathekana thanked the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development for giving her, as a disabled woman, the position to administer Ixopo and Kokstad courts.

“It is rare to find disabled women working in a high position, for me it was an honour from God. I worked with different people, from different places and was treated equally to other staff members,” said Qwathekana.

Qwathekana was accompanied by her mother Bonele Mngwenya and her two sons Sinethemba and Mongezi.

Staff from Kokstad Magistrate’s Court described her as loving and caring woman.

Mbuzeli Mziwabantu, one of the staff members in Kokstad Magistrate’s Court, said he worked with her for almost eight years.

“She (Qwathekana) was a friendly woman who loved learning new things and sharing her knowledge with other employees,” said
Mziwabantu.

Qwathekana said that she is not going to sit at home and do nothing during her retirement, she wants to educate young girls and children about their rights and help communities end domestic violence.
