THE family of the murdered Umzimkhulu Speaker and Harry Gwala ANC regional Secretary Khaya Thobela wants answers from the suspects linked to his murder.
The 37-year-old first suspect appeared in court for his murder and another 33-year-old suspect also appeared for possession of stolen property after he was allegedly found in possession of a stolen vehicle suspected to be used when Thobela was murdered.

Thobela was shot at his home in Mfundweni. He died on 23 April. He was buried at his home on 30 April.

His brother Sibongiseni, family members and the community attended the court case.
Outside the court, Sibongiseni broke down when describing his feelings upon seeing the first suspect in the dock looking calm.

“I want the suspect to be given a chance to tell us on why he murdered my brother Khaya. The family is still upset about Khaya’s death because he was a humble man.
“Khaya’s wife and her children are not coping in Mfundweni and want answers. Bail must be denied for the suspect.”

A charge of possession of an unlicenced firearm was added to the first suspect’s charges.
Magistrate Riaz Essack told the suspect to return to court on June 12 for further investigation.
The second suspect was told to return to court on May 22 for a formal bail application.

Within five minutes in the dock both suspects were asked not to plead as the court was packed with concerned community members, including the ANC regional chairperson, Zamo Nxumalo.

Outside court ANC members chanted songs and waved placards apposing bail.
Secretary of the ruling party in Harry Gwala region, Sindi Msomi said the suspects must be denied bail.

She said members of the ruling party will follow the case until the truth comes out.
