FASHION designer, Aphendulwa Klaas is using Facebook to sell her clothes and is getting clients from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and East London through this medium.

Born in Mvenyane village outside Matatiele, Klaas has made her mark by designing Xhosa and Sotho winter clothes in Cedarville.
She started designing in 2011 when she worked at the the Department of Agriculture in Cedarville, but resigned to respond to her calling of designing clothes.

Cedarville is an area that has many unemployed people, but Klaas has hired two young people, Kgaride Tsoanyane and Mandisa Klaas, to help her and also help to fight unemployment there.

“Cedarville is a small town with many unemployed young people and I want to employ young people to assist in the business.
“I want to turn my company into a factory to grow the local economy,” said Klaas.

Cedarville has diverse cultures - Xhosa, Sotho, Hlubi and English.
Klaas makes jackets, dresses and warm clothing out of blankets. She is now designing Ndebele clothes.
“I am not excluding English people and if they want me to design their clothes I will do so.”

She said the Department of Tourism and Economic Environment is mentoring her on designing top-quality clothes.
“Young people must use social media to look for opportunities or seek guidance from successful people to achieve their goals, and not use it for fun.”

Cedarville residents Zusiphe Majola, Alude Mayekiso, Unam Mvimbi and Amahle Njani wore Klass’s outfits.
