GREATER Kokstad Municipality launched an economic development, growth and enterprise forum that comprised business people and farm owners on Tuesday.

Forum members will hold quarterly meetings to discuss ways to develop Kokstad.

Kokstad is surrounded by farms and most people from Mount Ayliff, Matatiele, Flagstaff and Bizana use it for shopping, which contributes a lot to the growth of their economy.

GKM Municipal Manager, Lulamile Mapholoba said the forum will play a role in the development of Kokstad and will strengthen links between the private sector and the national and provincial government.

Mapholoba called on commercial farmers to participate in the forum.

“Without commercial farmers the Kokstad economy is nothing, so we need their support. Ideas of growing the forum are welcome.”

Members were also told to hold regular meetings to discuss important issues and give feedback and submit reports.

“The forum will evaluate the impact of programmes implemented, sponsored and funded by donors to facilitate the drafting of economic proposals that promote alignment and address the need of substantial job creation,” said the GKM Mayor, Bheki Mtolo.

Swartberg Farmers’ Association and Mount Currie Farmers’ Association members attended the forum launch and gave their support.
