LOCAL clubs in Ixopo were awarded trophies and medals for participating in the Ubuhlebezwe Mayoral Cup Tournament held at Ixopo High Sport Field on Saturday.

“The tournament is an annual sporting event which was formed to encourage healthy living in young people and building good relations between people. At the tournament, people networked and shared sport ideas,” said Ubuhlebezwe municipal deputy mayor Thobile Ngubo.

Ngubo said that a person who plays sport and lacks discipline does not succeed in playing sport because sport requires discipline.

Prizes such as kits, gold medals and trophies have been won by clubs who participated from different community wards. A Ward 4 FC won a kit, gold medal and trophy after beating Ward 12 FC 5-4 during penalties. Ward 4 and Ward 12 drew 0-0 at the pitch. At the semi-finals Ward 4 FC played against Ward 14 FC and won 1-0. A Ward 12 netball club played against Ward 2 and won 4-3.
