Fans disappointed as music festival cancelled

2018-12-21 06:00

PARTYGOERS were left disappointed this week when the Matatiele Music Festival was suddenly cancelled.

The annual event was meant to take place on December 15 at the Matatiele old Rugby field.

The festival was supposed to feature well-known national and local artists.

In the past, some of the acts who have graced the stage included Afro-Soul singers Zonke, Ringo Madlingozi, Big Nuz, Professor, Jaziel Brothers and other popular musicians.

According to a statement issued by Matatiele Local Municipality, they decided to cancel the 2018 music festival due to unforeseen logistical anomalies.

While this is disappointing for music lovers, Matat Music festival fans can look forward to a bigger and better extravaganza in 2019.

The municipality has, in the last few months, embarked on a process to repackage the event in order to ensure it produces the desired outcome. These efforts will ensure that the festival contributes to SMME development, effective exposure for young and upcoming local artists, tangible benefits for local businesses, and attraction of tourists to Matatiele as a tourism destination of choice.

On behalf of the municipality, Mayor of Matatiele Local Municipality. Councillor Momelezi Mbedla would like to apologise for any inconvenience the cancellation may have caused, saying “I can assure you that this difficult decision was in the best interest of the people of Matatiele. We are cancelling it in order to bring fans the best Matatiele Music Festival experience possible next year,” he said.
