SIMTHEMBILE Disane (18), from Thibane Combined School earned six certificates for good performance in the June exams at the Rising Generation Academic awards hosted by NPO, Centre for Moral Value and Justice in Kokstad last Friday.

Simthembile received 87% for mathematics, 63% for accounting, 52% for economics, 87% for English, 72% for business studies and 95% for Xhosa.

“I am proud to be awarded certificates for my good performance after working so hard. My aim is to get 100% at the end of the year,” said Simthembile.

He said some matric pupils sleep at the school to get extra study time and prepare for their final exams.

“Despite a shortage of teachers, matriculants want to make the school proud by getting 100%,” added Simthembile.

Matric pupils from Carl Malcomess High, Kokstad College, Shayamoya Secondary and Mount Currie High also received certificates.

Elite Makaula from Mount Currie High was awarded for good performance in history.

Vuyo Landa from the Centre for Moral Value and Justice said pupils were awarded because they demonstrated good qualities and boldness towards positive initiatives.

“We want to celebrate the youth who have made a positive change to make the country a better place.

“The NPO assists pupils to get bursaries to further their tertiary education,” said Landa.
