Farmers warned about rise in stock theft

2017-12-22 06:00

THE Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has warned livestock farmers about stock theft after many cases were reported in various regions this month.

The department said it seems that at this time of the year there is a spike in the theft of stock like cattle, goats and sheep, and farmers must be extra vigilant and look after their animals.

Farmers who have their stock stolen must report to traditional structures in the community and involve police for investigation.

People are cautioned to adopt additional measures to protect livestock during festive season. Livestock associations must work with community policing forums and local police stations to curb the scourge.
