Festive season preparations begin

2017-11-03 06:00

TO cement its spot as the leading net attractor of domestic tourism and attract global tourists, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs and South Coast Tourism will on Saturday launch a campaign called “KZN is Summer”.

The event is aimed at unveiling the province’s festive season plans to tourists and the media and takes place at St Michael’s beach.

Commenting ahead of the launch, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Sihle Zikalala, said the province boasts a rich offering of tourism products, which appeal to the local and international market.

“As outlined in our Tourism Master Plan, we want to grow our tourism business contribution to the GDP to more than R98 billion by 2020, which will generate around 183 000 jobs,” said Zikalala.

Currently KZN, the biggest attractor of domestic tourism, in the country is visited by more than 2 000 000 tourists over the festive season, including international visitors.

The launch of the KZN is Summer campaign will be attended by an array of stakeholders from the tourism industry.

As part of the launch, Zikalala will address a breakfast meeting and brief stakeholders about the latest developments in the tourism industry, after which a music festival, featuring some of the country’s top musical acts, will follow.
