A LOCAL non-government organisation is tackling social ills facing the youth through sport. Founded by residents from extension three in Margate, the Lifezone Foundation sees young people from Margate and surrounds participate in sporting activities every day from 4pm to 6pm with matches held every weekend.

The organisation’s sports co-ordinator, Mdu Banjwa, said sporting codes include rugby, soccer, cricket, netball and volleyball.

“The initiative has enjoyed a great deal of support especially from community members because crime, alcohol and drug abuse have riddled our communities. “Through this, our youth will have something else to focus on,” said Banjwa. The organisation will have their first tournament, which will include teams from all over the South Coast on June 16 at South Coast Academy. Details are on their Facebook page.
