Film and TV study bursaries now available

KWAZULU-NATAL Film Commission (KZNFC) invites pupils to apply for bursaries for the 2018 academic year. Bursaries will be awarded to pupils who want to study in the film and television industry at a recognised KZN tertiary institution.

In a statement the commission said they will be giving­ preference to previously disadvantages individuals­, which include people with disabilities and students already studying television and film production, but who are in need of funds to continue with their studies.

Grade 12 pupils can apply, however, they should be in the process of registering to study film or TV or have already registered at a KZN-recognised institution.

Those who have a minimum of a NQF level 6 qualification­ at a KwaZulu-Natal recognised tertiary or further education and training institution can also apply.

KANFC said applicants should be residents of KZN, and South African citizens.

Filmmaker Senzo Zindela said pursuing a career in film gives one an opportunity to tell a story. He encouraged the youth to take a career in the film and television industry so they can equip themselves with the necessary knowledge of telling untold stories.

“Studying for any qualification in the film industry will equip one to be good visual storyteller to preserve culture and educate our community through film.

He said film in Ugu is growing and this is an opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to get the qualifications and be part of the growth.

“A career in film and television can be directing sound engineering, editing, line production and photography just to name a few,” he said.

Bursary application forms can be downloaded at www.kwazulunatalfilm.co.za or collected from 10th floor, Musgrave Towers, 115 Musgrave Road, Berea in Durban.

Completed forms must be emailed to bursary@ kwazulunatalfilm.co.za or dropped off at the Kwa- Zulu­-Natal Film Commission Offices.

Closing date for applications is October 20.
