WHETHER you’re the silver bullet of your running club or a Sunday morning stroller; that power couple who trains together or weekend warriors on the mountain bike, you can join in KwaZulu-Natal’s biggest outdoor participative event this May. The Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk on Sunday, May 20 has a race pace and distance for everyone. All you have to do is #FindYourPace. There are three walking routes to choose from; 5km, 10km and 20km. There is also an exciting and all-new 9 km fun run as part of this firm family favourite event. Participants in all events will make their way along the promenade, from uShaka Marine World to Moses Mabhida People’s Park. In another first this year, some of East Coast Radio’s presenters will also walk alongside participants. Catch the ECR Breakfast team doing the 5 km walk, Jane Linley-Thomas and Thandolwethu walking 10km, the Drive team doing the 20 km walk and Damon Beard in the 9 km fun run.East Coast Radio’s General Manager Boni Mchunu said: “We’re so proud that the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk has grown to become a highlight on the province’s events calendar. In an exciting addition this year we have included a charity element. A portion of every entry fee received will go towards Saint Giles, a non profit organisation in Durban for the disabled. They do amazing work providing services and support to the disabled through their remedial gymnasium and work centre. So we’re especially pleased to able to assist them in some way.”Discovery’s Head of Experiential Marketing and Sponsorships Iona Maclean says the event continues to bring Durban families from various backgrounds together each year to walk side-by-side along the scenic promenade.“Physical activity is important in leading a healthy lifestyle and we are proud that we have been getting Durban families walking for 10 years now. Parents bring their children along and this instils good habits in their little people who will grow up knowing the benefits of being active. Discovery Vitality members can look forward to achieving Vitality points for whatever distance they choose to walk,” Maclean added. Participants are encouraged to bring their picnic baskets in at the finish line and enjoy some well deserved great entertainment. Entries are now open and if you enter by April 15 not only are ticket prices discounted, but you also stand the chance of winning a weekend away at Champagne Sports Resort valued at R12 000.
