THE Maluti police in the Matatiele cluster arrested six suspects on Wednesday after they were caught trafficking dagga.
Five of the suspects were found to be Lesotho nationals.
Matatiele SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Raphael Motloung said the suspects are aged are between 26 and 34 and one of them is female.
“They were found travelling on the road linking Matatiele and Qhacha Port of Entry on the South Africa and Lesotho border. “The police patrolling the area stopped a Quantum taxi with the intention of searching it, but realised they were outnumbered.
“They decided to let the Quantum go but alerted their colleagues in Maluti to block it,” said Motloung.
The backup police intercepted the vehicle in Maluti and upon searching it, the police found 11 dagga bags inside.
“While searching further, the police realised a SAPS member stationed in Maluti was among the occupants.”
The suspect policeman managed to jump off the taxi and fled the scene. It is alleged the dagga was destined for Durban. The suspects will appear in court soon. - Supplied.
