THE South African Football Association (Safa) in Harry Gwala awarded 175 coaches certificates after they completed coach training in Kokstad on Saturday.

Football, netball and boxing coaches from the area were at the handover at the Kokstad town hall.

Safa Technical Director, John Motsa said the purpose of the training is to make sure that sport grows in Kokstad.

“The training was about teaching coaching skills in football. The next group of coaches will be trained next month.”

According to Safa these coaches qualify to coach anywhere in the country.

Safa Deputy President, Phumlile Gxabhu called on coaches to train young people to qualify for national teams.

“Strikers are not enough for the national team - Bafana Bafana - and it is the duty of local coaches to ensure that the youth qualify for national teams.
“The future of the country’s national team depends on coaches,” said Gxabhu.

Gxabhu called on female coaches to attract women to the sport.

Sakhile Tshazi and Zibokwakhe Mncwabe were awarded for promoting sport in the region.
