Funeral parlour apologises for swopped bodies

THE Ndlangisa family from Meyi village outside Umzimkhulu is accusing the funeral parlour of carelessness after their mother Maria Ndlangisa’s body was given to another family for burial on January 6.

Maria’s son Mduduzi said when the family went to Giwu’s Funeral Parlour to fetch her body they were shown the wrong body.

“On January 7 we went to fetch my mother’s body from the funeral parlour, but when we got there we were shown the wrong body. We informedpeople at the parlour, who then wanted to speak to us privately to solve the matter,” said Mduduzi.

He said the parlour apologised to the Ndlangisa family and said that Maria’s body was mistakenly given to the Ndzimande family, who are also from Umzimkhulu.

On January 12, Fever published the story of the swopped corpses. Both were kept at the same mortuary, but were registered under different funeral parlours, Giwu’s Funerals and Ubuntu Funeral Parlour.

Khaya Stofile of Ubuntu Funerals and Vangiwe Giwu of Giwu’s Funerals apologised for the mistake and said the matter is to be investigated and promised to assist the families with funeral expenses.

Stofile confirmed that the Ndzimande family has since been given the right body and a burial was held last Saturday.

He said they are waiting for the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court to release an order to exhume Maria’s body to be handed to her family.

“This thing brought stress and trauma to the family.

“I can’t even drive properly because my mind is all over with many unanswered questions. We had people coming from all over the country to my mother’s funeral and we had to turn them back,” said Mduduzi.
