Give up smoking

2017-10-27 06:00

I WOULD like to highlight the physical harms of smoking. Smoking causes an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. Smoking has been linked to a number of cancers aside from lung cancer. These include cancer of the tongue, throat, kidney and bladder.

Moreover, we should consider the fact that we generally cause distress and inconvenience to so many non-smokers, who find smoking a very disagreeable habit. This then is a violation of their rights.

So many women endure this offensive and bad habit of their husbands. I get a headache if I have to sit in a car in which the driver or passenger or even the ashtray has a cigarette smell. Although I adopt patience, the truth is that I feel like stopping the driver and getting out.

So much money is saved in giving up smoking. Consider how many widows, orphans, poor and needy people could have been sustained with that which you burnt. All those cigarettes were of no benefit to your physical health and well-being.

When so many have given up drug addictions, what then are cigarette addictions?

The next time you take a cigarette, reflect on the following: I am burning money, harming my health, inconveniencing others and my mouth is so filthy no angel or human being wants to be near me.

If the person, who smokes does not seem to muster the courage to give up, then he or she should, together with sincere prayer, impose upon him or herself, a fine for each cigarette smoked. At the end of each month, the total amount of the fine should be given to charity.

This prescription will fail hopelessly and not be practical. So the crux of the whole thing is to be wise and intelligent and abstain from smoking.
