GKM re-advertises municipal manager’s post

2016-11-11 06:00

THE Greater Kokstad Municipal manager position that has remained unfilled, was re-advertised in the media recently.
The post became vacant after the former manager Zamokuhle Mkhize’s contract expired in February.

Opposition party EFF is concerned about the re-advertising of the post after it was advertised in the media in August.

On 7 September four candidates were shortlisted after 16 candidates applied for the position.
Mayor Beki Mtolo was the chairperson of the shortlisting panel assisted by his deputy, Karen Walker and Ubuhlebezwe Municipal Manager Gamakhulu Sineke and said he wants the appointment of a manager to be fair and honest.

EFF has raised fears that the post might be reserved for someone who is favoured, and who will be controlled by politicians.

“We are going to make sure that the post is awarded to the right candidate not someone who’s going to be manipulated by politicians for personal benefit.
“The post has been vacant for a long time and the municipality cannot function well without a permanent manager,” said EFF councillor Dumisani Dlamini.

According to the details of the post, the municipality is looking for someone who will promote the municipality as an investment area.
The annual remuneration package is between R930 409 and R1 208 463, negotiable.

Municipal spokesperson Sabelo Ncwane said the reason they re-advertised the post is because applicants didn’t meet municipal requirements.
He said the municipality is functioning well, but a manager is needed to move the municipality forward.

Andile Velem is currently the acting municipal manager.
The closing date for applications is 21 November.
