GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.

Mayoral Imbizo

The 2016 Mayoral Imbizo is taking place at Franklin Sport field on the 21st of April 2016. During the event the Mayor will be addressing the community on the State of Municipality in terms of service delivery. The community will also get an opportunity to ask questions to the municipality in terms of service delivery. It is worth mentioning that Harry Gwala District Municipality will be part of us and will answering you on the issues of water and sanitation. Please attend and participate in the decision making of your government.

Drainage at the corner of Dower and Hope Streets

Several complaints have been received by the Municipality with regard to the above mentioned drainage that is causing floods especially around Taxi Rank. I am pleased to announce that the contractor to do that drainage system has been appointed and will resume work very soon. The community is sensitized that during that work traffic flow especially in Hope Street will be disturbed and we request the patience of road users especially during peak hours.

Bhongweni Cemetery fencing challenge

We read with regret about the vandalisation of cemeteries in Bhongweni that is done by some irresponsible community members. The municipality did prioritize the fencing of cemeteries in the past and the same community vandalised the fence. We will look for other options to make sure that we fence the cemeteries. We appeal to the community to refrain from vandalising any municipal property because it is costing you the public to repair those damages. I also request that we go back to our roots and respect the dead especially the cemeteries. It is disrespectful to walk over the graves, smoking over them and doing all sort of things that compromises the sacred of the graves.
