GKM Viewpoint

2016-12-16 06:01

Greetings to the people of Kokstad.

Early closure of offices for festive holidays

AS we approach the Christmas holidays, I wish to remind the community about the early closure of the municipal offices. Offices will close at 12.30pm on 23 and 30 December.
This will be done to allow the staff to travel early for Christmas holidays. It must also be noted that we have allowed the staff to go on leave until early January 2017. This means that the municipality will be operating on skeleton staff but will be providing the essential services to the community.
We would like to encourage the community of Kokstad to utilise third party vendors like Spar, Pick n Pay, and Spargs, Rhino, BP Garage and other shops around locations to purchase electricity.
They are also encouraged to use online services to pay for municipal services. The Council is also on recess until late January. Most managers will be on leave as well. We hope that this message will reach our people and will understand the situation. Services will return to normal in January.

GKM ensuring safe roads for festive season

The Greater Kokstad Municipality has heeded the call by Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters in making sure that we have a hand in reduction of road accidents for this festive season.
I must say that I was disturbed by reports of regular accidents between Ingeli and Nolangeni. I urge the drivers who will be driving between those areas to take an extra care. People must adhere to the rules of the road, avoid speeding, avoid unnecessary overloads, etc. Make sure that your car is roadworthy and you have rested enough before you take a drive. Road safety is our collective responsibility. Still on that, our municipal law enforcement will be teaming up with other stakeholders to make sure that we deal with reckless driving and crime activities in our town. Offenders will face the mighty hand of the law.

Merry Christmas to the people of Kokstad

May I take this opportunity and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year. Please enjoy your holidays responsibly. Make sure that what you have is shared with your neighbour. Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu. Ukhisimusi isikhathi sokwabelana sijabule sonke. This is my last column this year and till we meet next year. God bless.
