GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.2017 State of the Nation AddressYesterday we witnessed President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation’s Address for 2017. This is an important occasion because this is when the president sets the tone for this year’s programme of action that will be followed by government. From this address every sphere of government draws its priorities in responding to the needs of every South African. As the Greater Kokstad Municipality it is our responsibility to ensure that we shape our agenda for this year using the issues outlined by the president yesterday. Soon we will be doing 2017/2018 budget proposals that will be taken to the community for comment and we will be responding to the community’s priorities raised during our IDP road shows. When doing the budget we will be looking at those priorities and broadening our approach to ensure that our budget responds to other social challenges that confront our people e.g. poverty, and by doing so we will be confirming a government that seeks to listen to its people and proclaiming our commitment to the Freedom Charter which says: “The people shall govern.” Our aim of making 2017 a year of action has begun. As the acting leader of administration I must see that resolutions taken by council are implemented. Complaints about our traffic sectionI acknowledge that complaints were raised by the community about our traffic section especially the delays in doing CORs. The gross shortage of staff was the main contributor to that challenge and I am working with the head of that department to resolve the challenge. The process of filling vacant posts in that section has been granted by council and we will try to speed up the process. Those posts will address the challenge of delays that are happening when people do their COR. Nango 2017 siyaqhubeka nokuphuhlisa iKokstad. Enkosi.
