GKM Viewpoint

GOOD greetings to the community of Kokstad.

Operation Thetha Nonembeza

“Operation Thetha Nonembeza” encourages motorists to make conscious decisions on the roads over this festive season.

A large number of vehicle accidents are due to poor driving behaviour. Road traffic safety needs to be made aware of this so motorists and pedestrians can be compliant in all areas.

A decision must be taken before one drinks and drives, overtakes, speeds or decides to drive in an inconsiderate manner, and we ask drivers to talk to their conscience and make considerate and safe decisions on the road.

Law enforcement will be intensified during this festive season as volumes of traffic are expected to increase exponentially.

Ongoing road safety awareness campaigns will be embarked on, and includes contributions from stakeholders, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the KZN Department of Transport and Road Accident Fund, among others.

Over this period a variety of crimes tend to manifest themselves, but through increased visibility and enhanced numbers the Greater Kokstad Municipality will be out to protect its citizens and ensure that visitors feel safe in our area.

Vigorous enforcement of by-laws and traffic violations will be the order of the day, and we advised the public to speak to their conscience and report criminal activities so that crime is squeezed out of our area.

Acknowledgement of vulnerable groups

The Greater Kokstad Municipality, through special programmes, has a mandate to take care of special groups (elderly, children and the disabled) within the populace of the municipal area of jurisdiction.

An initiative by the Office of the Mayor to recognise the special grouping has been identified as a paramount endeavour so a two-day event has been scheduled to honour vulnerable groups as special citizenry of GKM

to enable long-term restoration of dignity for the elderly, children and the disabled community.

The event runs on December 21-22. Thank you for lending me your eyes and ears, and let’s meet next week, same time, same place.
