WARM greetings to Kokstad residents and community at large.

Appointment of the Greater Kokstad Municipality’s Municipal Planning Tribunal

The Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act, 2013 (Act No. 16 of 2013) requires municipalities to adopt Spatial Development Frameworks and Land Use Schemes and empowers them to approve applications for the rezoning of land, subdivision of land, township establishment and removal, amendment and suspension of restrictive condition of title.

Municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal have performed these functions since 2010. Municipalities are required to establish Municipal Planning Tribunals to decide applications, to devolve the power to approve routine applications to officials, decide appeals against decisions by the Municipal Planning Tribunal etc.

The Greater Kokstad Municipality has therefore appointed the following members to serve on the Greater Kokstad Municipality’s Municipal Planning Tribunal:

(a) Registered Planners - Muzomuhle Luthuli

(b) Attorneys or Advocates - Sushila Keshav Narshai

(c) Environmental Science - Co-opted Representative from the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Harry Gwala District Office

(d) Civil Engineering - Hendrik Adriaan Roets

(e) Agricultural Science and Economics - Dr Merida Roets

(f) Geomatics - Greg Paul Hitchins

(g) Convenor/Secretariat - Samora Madikizela (Municipal Planning authorised officer)

Debt collection campaign continues

Last week the municipal officials were at the Royalts Complex as part of the ongoing campaign on debt collection. Flyers with details of municipal services, various and convenient methods of payments, process and procedure the municipality will follow if bills are not paid in an attempt to improve revenue collection were handed out to community members. Customers had an opportunity to enquire and direct interact with municipal officials with regards to their accounts and municipal services. The campaign will continue to other malls in Kokstad in the month of February. Door to door visits will be conducted to ensure customers are made aware of the importance of paying for municipal services.

Thank you for lending me your eyes and ears, will meet again same time, same place.
