WARM greetings to Kokstad residents and the community at large.

MEC from Human Settlements and Public Works

The municipality is taking inter-governmental relations (IGR) as a serious matter when it comes to ensuring that the delivery of services to our community is done in a sustainable and equitable manner. This is witnessed by the working relations between the Greater Kokstad Municipality, the Department of Human Settlement and Public Works in KZN and the Harry Gwala District Municipality in trying to speed up the process of our Human Settlement projects currently under way in Kokstad and taking into account the issues of bulk services. The MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works visited us on Tuesday to check on the progress of housing projects, namely the Willowdale housing project, Makhoba housing project, Operation Sukuma Sakhe projects, Ward 2 and 6 farm workers, community residential units, Shayamoya Phase 3, Shayamoya Community residential units. Among other issues addressed were the challenges that are faced by the projects which are not within the area of operation of the GKM, and possible interventions to such challenges and the way forward. We are confident that the intervention by the MEC and mayor of GKM, together with the Harry Gwala District Municipality, will hugely assist the projects to be completed and handed over to the beneficiaries in good quality and in time.

New appointments of executive managers

I am pleased to announce that the council has managed to appoint two executive managers. Dr P. Makoba is corporate services executive manager and S.M. Dondo is infrastructure and technical services manager. Both managers will start their duties on April 3

Greater Kokstad Municipality Light Industrial Park and Shayamoya Eco-Tourism Park

Last Thursday, the municipality was visited by the KZN Legislature Finance portfolio committee. The main objective of the visit was to discuss the challenges faced by two projects, the Light Industrial Park and Shayamoya Eco–Tourism Park. The meeting discussed and identified areas where intervention is necessary and how to go about approaching the matter.

With the intervention of the portfolio committee and other stakeholders, the municipality will be in a better position to realise the objectives of both projects so that the community of Kokstad can start to benefit from the project as per the initial plan.

Thank you for landing me your eyes and ears. We will meet again, same time, same place.
