WARM greetings to Kokstad residents and the community at large.OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTRE The Greater Kokstad municipal council identified an area of non-employment and one of the major issues around that is that the most of our youth are not skilled. This then led to the council sourcing funding to build a skills centre at Bhongweni location. The multimillion rand project took one year to complete (March 2017 to March 2018), which is fully funded by Services Seta. A memorandum of agreement has been developed for signature between the municipality and Esayidi FET College. The skills centre will be run by the FET College from April 2018, offering trade certificates in different fields such as construction, welding and personal care. The official launch will be held today. The launch will be graced by the presence of dignitaries which we cannot declare at this present moment. UPDATE: STATUS ON MID-BLOCK ROADS PROJECT Several complaints came through the municipality with regards to the lack of progress of the mid-block roads project. The municipality is currently in the process of terminating the contract due to slow progress on site and is to secure speedily a new service provider who will finish the project. The municipality has since instructed the appointed engineer to conduct an inspection of the current status of the works and submit a report to the municipality. This will be used to secure services of the new contractor. The municipal maintenance department will be responsible for the maintenance of current roads up until the new contractor is appointed. The affected residents are urged to contact the municipality should there be any obstruction during this period until the matter is finalised. Kindly contact Thobelani Zondi at 039 797 6674 during working hours. VALUATION ROLL AND OBJECTION PERIOD The municipality is again reminding Kokstad residents to make use of the objection period with regard to the valuation of their properties. The objection forms are available on the municipal website www.kokstad.gov.za Please take note and use the correct form for your objection as we have three different forms for business, farmers and residential. The closing date for objections is March 29. The municipality appreciates the community of Ward 03 for raising their concerns in a meeting that was held on March 18 in the town hall. We hope and believe we have clarified the areas where people were not clear of the issues. The business chamber and farmers’ association meet with us on March 19 and the meeting was also fruitful. Thank you for lending me your eyes and ears. We will meet again same time, same place.
