WARM Greetings to the Greater Kokstad community.

The Greater Kokstad municipality established 10 ward committees in all wards of Kokstad. According to the ward committee establishment and operations policy, ward committees need to be capacitated on relevant skills for them to be able to carry out their duties effectively.

Ward committees are established in terms of part 4 of the Municipal Structures Act of 1998 (Act No. 117 of 1998). They are the advisory structure which make recommendations of any matter affecting service delivery in ward level and are required to increase the participation of citizens in local government by providing a link between the community and the Municipal Council. For the Ward committee system to be fully effective and functional, there is a need for capacity building of ward committees by the municipality. They will be trained on the following

• Integrated Development Planning (IDP)

• Budgeting

• Performance Management System (PMS)

• Local Economic Development (LED) and

• Service Delivery

Councillor Martha Nomasamariya Dlakavu died on March 26. The Memorial Service was conducted on Thursday, April 5, and she will be laid to rest at Saphukanduku in Mt Ayliff on April 7.

May her soul rest in everlasting peace.

The greater Kokstad Municipality is joining hands with millions of South Africans in mourning the death of Mama Winnie Madikizela–Mandela.

The icon, mother of the nation, fighter, daughter of the soil. Our deepest condolences to the Mandela and Madikizela family. Her party the African National Congress and the African National Congress Women’s League, comrades and friends.

We draw inspiration in her character during the difficult times of apartheid struggle. She remained content, brave and stronger even after the freedom struggle.

We are grateful to her family as South Africans, for giving her space to serve South Africa in the manner she did. It is through her selfless determination that she was able to fight without fear and lay her life down for the freedom of South Africans.

She sacrificed her own happiness and that of her family. Indeed she was a fighter, and a nation builder.

We will continue to celebrate and enjoy the fruits of her hard work. We are truly saddened by her departure, but we know she has ran her race. Lala Ngoxolo MaNgutyana.

Thank you for lending me your eyes and ears will meet again same time same place.
