WARM Greetings to Kokstad residents and the community at large. Newly appointed managers join the municipality. The newly appointed managers joined the Greater Kokstad Municipality’s Management Team on April 3 — Dr. Makoba the Executive Manager of Corporate services and Mr. Dondo the Executive Manager of Infrastructure and Technical Services. We believe their appointment will bring a huge change in terms of service delivery, especially on the infrastructure projects that are experiencing challenges. DRAFT BUDGET AND IDP 2018/19 ROAD SHOWS Thank you readers for showing interest in what I have to say.Currently we’re hosting Budget Road shows in all wards which started on April 9 and will end on April 16, where the council led by his worship the Mayor is presenting the draft Integrated Development Planning (IDP) and budget for the financial year 2018/19.The municipality welcomed the inputs made by community members on those wards that have been visited, in particular, the ideas sponsored by young people around the development of youth in Kokstad.I would like to advise all young people to make use of our Special Programmes unit, where the needs of our youth are being catered for. We have recently appointed the Youth Officer particularly for that reason. The special Programme Unit is operating at the Youth Centre in Bongweni. With that being said, I would like to urge all community members to pay attention to the budget related issues so that we don’t miss out the critical issues and the objective of budget road shows. So far people have complaints about electricity cut-offs which can be dealt with separately and privately, I urge the community members affected to visit the municipality at 75 Hope Street (main office) reception and request for the enquiries and debt collection office to make arrangements for an overdue account. I will touch on a few issues as follows; NEW GREATER KOKSTAD MUNICIPALITY ADOPTED LAND USE SCHEME In terms of Section 24 (1) of the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (Act 16 of 2013) that the Greater Kokstad Municipality has replaced the Kokstad Town Planning Scheme with the Greater Kokstad Land Use Scheme and adopted a new scheme (Greater Kokstad Land Use Scheme) that will cover all areas that were not previously included in a scheme. This is in response to the requirements of the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (Act No. 16 of 2013) to adopt and approve a single land use scheme for its entire area of jurisdiction.Community members affected by this Land Use Scheme are notified that the Scheme is in place is ready to be implemented by the Municipality. LAUNCH OF ANTI-FRAUD HOTLINE FOR THE GREATER KOKSTAD MUNICIPALITY The council of GKM has developed and approved a fraud prevention & anti-corruption strategy, which has been established in fulfilment of the requirements of legislation and as an expression of council’s commitment to fighting fraud and corruption.Considering that fraud and corruption presents a significant risk on service delivery progress; the Municipality’s assets and reputation council is in the process of implementing the anti-fraud strategy in its entirety. The implementation of the strategy will be in the form of campaigns to make community aware of the channels they can use to report acts of Fraud and Corruption. The campaign will commence from April 18 to April 20.Thank you. We will meet again same time, same place.
