WARM GREETINGS TO THE KOKSTAD GKM YOUTH STRATEGIC PLANNINGTHE National Youth Policy (2020) acknowledges the role of local government in youth development by encouraging the local government to design mechanisms for the creation of youth development programmes as well as identifying the needs and development opportunities for the youth. The Local Youth Development Guidelines further encourage municipalities to institutionalise youth development. The Greater Kokstad Municipality will conduct the Youth Strategic planning session from the May 3 to 4, 2018. The purpose of the Strategic Planning is to consolidate youth initiatives that enhance the capabilities of young people to participate in the socio-economic transformation agenda.The strategic planning also seeks to consolidate and integrate youth development into the mainstream of government policies, programmes and the available budget in different spheres of government and other institutions. The outcome of the planning will be a comprehensive action plan that will guide the municipality and government in implementing youth development.NEW APPOINTMENTSThe following posts have been filled so as to provide reliable services to our community. Holane.REMINDER ABOUT GKM MAYORAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT SUMMITThe municipality will be hosting a two-day Mayoral Growth and Development Summit. The first day will be on May 8, where there will also be a Mayoral Investment Dinner in the evening. Various departments, formal business, investors and SOEs have been invited.On May 9, we will be having a session for informal business, co-operatives and emerging business. The venue for the event will be the Town Hall. The evening dinner on May 8 will start at 6 pm.THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE SUMMIT IS TO:• Attract investment as means to grow the economy and increase localised economic spend with emphasis on emerging business enterprise;• Encourage dialogue between public sector on the municipality’s economic development trajectory to realise its re-engineering vision by 2047;• Intensify support by building economic potential through diversity, levels of work opportunity and creation of decent work;• Create partnerships and strengthened intergovernmental coordination of economic development planning and implementation (most important on the agenda is the collaboration between government and the private sector); and• Develop marginalised territories such as townships, informal settlements, peri-urban areas and rural settlements.
