WARM greetings to the Kokstad community and community at large.

STRENGTHENING LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (LED)

In trying to improve and strengthen LED, the municipality has formed partnerships with learning institutions, sector Departments and agencies of Government.

Further to that, the municipality will host the SMME and Informal Economy Partnership Dialogue, scheduled for 03 July 2018, which will realise the culmination of some of those agreements.

The dialogue will focus on the following areas — the Informal Micro Enterprises Development Programme (IMEDP) meant to provide access to implements / equipment and access to information on funding through SEFA (Small Enterprise Funding Agency).

Twenty (20) applications have been approved through this programme and they will receive catering equipment, seamstress equipment and welding equipment.

ESTABLISHMENT OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UKZN FOUNDATION

Out of the partnership, the municipality has managed to secure the following benefits for our community– delivery of five hand tillers for emerging farmers in the Bhongweni and Shayamoya areas, aimed at augmenting land preparation for primary production.

In addition, Franklin-Makoba has been prioritised as a development node for agriculture and the municipality will provide five shade cloth tunnels, in Franklin, for training while procuring Industrial vegetable tunnels for the establishment of the Farmer Production Support Unit (FPSU) as part of the AgriPark Concepts.

(Twenty) 20 Applications for informal economy actors were approved.

They will receive equipment such as catering equipment (stove, fridge, etc), seamstress equipment (sewing machine and garment press) and welding equipment (compressor, generator, etc).

MUNICIPALITY SUPPORTS LOCAL CO-OPS

Following the donation that local co-ops and organisations received from the Mayor during the SOMA, the municipality has further supported the Malibongwe Co-op with fabric material at a total value of R 50 000 as well as a latest model sewing machine with a total value of R 20 000.

The Twist Valley co-op is among the bakery co-ops which has received support from the municipality, which include bakery training and book keeping, and they will further received the catering equipment.

Thank you for lending me your eyes and ears. We will meet again, same time, same place!
