GKM VIEWPOINT

2018-10-26 06:00

WARM greetings to the Kokstad community and community at large.

PLEA FROM MUNICIPAL COUNCIL

The community of Kokstad has recently suffered unrest which was caused by the murder of a young man by the name of Vusumzi Mhlawuli, famously known as Malala. This has aggravated the community of Kokstad as a whole, particularly the residents of Horseshoe.

The rapid response team led by the Speaker Cllr Mhlongo has intervened in the matter, holding meetings with the community in trying to handle the situation.

I would like to take this opportunity and thank the leadership from the community of Horseshoe for their co-operation with municipal leadership in handling the matter. The police are still busy with investigations on the matter.

We still have trust in our law enforcement and we hope that the matter will be put to rest soon and justice will be served to the victims. The mayor of the Greater Kokstad municipality, Cllr B M Mtolo, the speaker Cllr Mhlongo and other councillors have visited the family to provide support during this difficult time.

RESIDENTS OF KOKSTAD UNDER THE GREATER KOKSTAD MUNICIPALITY ARE KINDLY INFORMED AS FOLLOWS:

RENTAL HOUSING TRIBUNAL

The municipality took a council resolution on the establishment of the rental housing information office in compliance with section 14 of the Rental Housing Act No 50 of 1999. Section 14(1) of Rental Housing Act no 50 of 1999 provides that a local authority may establish a Rental Housing Information Office, to advise the landlords and tenants in regard to their rights and obligations in relation to dwellings within the area of such local authority’s jurisdiction. I would like to remind the community that the municipality offers such services.

We are of the opinion that this initiative will allow citizens to be better informed in as far as their rights and obligations as tenants and landlords respectively, are concerned. We hope this will bring about harmony in the rental housing sector. For more information, contact Thembakuye Dlamini at 039 797 6712.

REMINDER OF THE IDP ROADSHOWS

Kokstad residents are kindly reminded to attend community meetings where the municipal council is consulting communities with the aim of reprioritising the projects in the IDP in preparation for budget processes for the 2019/2020 financial year. The process is mandated by section 34 of the Municipal Systems Act number 32 of 2000. Community meetings started on October 16. Ward committee members and other stakeholders have already been consulted.

Till next time.
