GKM VIEWPOINT

WARM greetings to the Kokstad community and community at large.

COMMUNITY SAFETY FIRST

Every year, when we approach the year-end, we experience an escalation of crime, where robbery and housebreaking are taking the lead.

The municipality has embarked on a community safety awareness campaign, targeting schools, where learners are educated about the importance of community safety.

Meanwhile, in strengthening this campaign, the municipality, in partnership with the Department of Community Safety, will embark on a process of electing Ward Safety Committees on Saturday, October 27.

The training of ward safety committees will follow on November 1 and November 2 (Thursday and Friday).

The purpose of this programme is to curb crime within the communities by increasing the visibility of SAPS members in the crime hot spots, and also to strengthen working relations between communities and the Department of Safety and other relevant stakeholders.

This comes after the recent brutal killing of a person in Kokstad, which disturbed and shocked the Kokstad community.

Members of the community are therefore encouraged to participate in this programme of ward safety committees so that they can be part of government and have a say in expediting the kind of change that we want to see.

OPERATION SUKUMA SAKHE (OSS) THANKSGIVING PRAYER

The office of the Premier in KwaZulu-Natal will lead a thanksgiving prayer for operation Sukuma Sakhe in Kokstad on October 26.

The District Mayor Cllr M.E.

Ndobe of Harry Gwala District and the Greater Kokstad Mayor Cllr BM Mtolo will also be among attendees.

Churches in and around Kokstad have been invited to be part of this occasion.

Kokstad Community members are invited to worship together with government leadership on the day in giving thanks towards the work of the OSS thus far.

The prayer details are as follows:

Venue — Bhongweni Youth Centre

Time — 9 am

Date — Friday, October 26.

DISTRIBUTION OF TITLE DEEDS

Communities of Ward One and Ward Nine are kindly informed that Mayor Cllr BM Mtolo will continue with the distribution of title deeds to home owners in the above mentioned wards on Saturday, October 27.

Community members are to note that, due to the prayer on Friday, the distribution of title deeds was postponed to Saturday, as community members will be attending the prayer together with the Mayor. Many apologies for the inconvenience caused in this regard.

Until next time...
