Goods attachment delayed

2016-07-08 06:00

THE Department of Correctional Services is delaying the Kokstad sheriff from attaching movable goods from the Kokstad Manage- ment Area after the Labour Court issued a writ of execution for James Baxter, the former employee of Correctional Services.

Baxter took the Department of Correctional Services to court after the department failed to appoint him regional commissioner in the Eastern Cape.
On 15 June, the Braamfontein Labour Court ruled in favour of Baxter for compensation.
In the ruling the sheriff was directed to attach and take possession of movable goods, including motor vehicles, from the Kokstad Management Area, which will be auctioned.

The sum of R313 120 was awarded to Baxter in terms of arbitration award on 16 March, 2015 by the

Kokstad Magistrate’s Court
, which the department appealed.

However, the amount accumulated by 10.25% last year, rising to R344 214 this year.

Fever published the story last year when the

Kokstad Magistrate’s Court
ruled in favour of Baxter.

At the time of going to press the department had not responded to questions sent by email to it.
