GOSPEL singer, Sibongukwanda “Jumbo” Nyangiwe (26), won the Best Song of the Year award at the 10th Crown Gospel Music Awards at the Durban ICC last Sunday for his song Singenise.

Umzimkhulu-born Nyangiwe thanked fans and those who voted for him, and said the “award is a gift from God”.

“I worked hard to get votes. I want to thank the media, which also helped me.”

He sang Singenise at the awards to great applause. When he walked onto stage to receive the award gospel artists Bethusile Mcinga and Dumi Mkokstad celebrated with him.

Singenise, which came off his first album, Jumbo Siyaya, has been playing on certain radio stations.

Among those who congratulated him were ANCYL Harry Gwala region members and the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality Mayor, Mphuthumi Mpabanga who said they are happy about his victory.

“Our support and campaigning for this shining star has finally paid off. The youth league prides itself on this milestone and believe it will motivate young people.

“I encourage young people within Harry Gwala to follow in Nyangiwe’s footsteps and refrain from using drugs and alcohol over the festive season,” said youth league regional secretary, Qiniso Ntozakhe.
