Greater Kokstad Municipality viewpoint

2016-09-09 06:00

GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.
Know your Councillor campaign
The Greater Kokstad Municipality is embarking on the “Know your Councillor” campaign where speaker Cllr Zolani Mhlongo will introduce the new councillors in the wards.
As I indicated we are now hitting the ground running and the community will be given an opportunity to interact with their ward councillor and raise issues that concern them, however, it must be remembered that this is not an IDP roadshow. The community will get an opportunity to suggest their service delivery priorities when we have IDP roadshows in November.
We invite the community to attend these meetings and get a feel of working together with the councillor they voted for. We have already visited Ward 4 and Ward 5 and were happy with the positive reception we got from the communities there.

Progress in MM appointment post
The community is informed that the municipality has started the processes of appointing a new municipal manager. On Wednesday 7 September, the executive committee, led by Mayor Cllr Bheki Mtolo concluded the shortlisting of the suitable candidates, who will be interviewed for the post.
We gave stakeholders, and the media observer status during interviews and the shortlisting process because council wants to be transparent, especially because they are employing someone who will be accountable for public funds. Council will ensure they get the best municipal manager for the development of Kokstad. This gesture is a true reflection of the new council’s aim, which is that of creating a clean and responsible government.

2016 Reed Dance celebration
May I take this opportunity and wish the maidens, who will be attending the 2016 Reed Dance celebration in kwaNongoma, safe travelling. Go there and represent Kokstad with pride. The municipality is proud of you.
Siyaqhuba, enkosi.
