Greater Kokstad Municipality viewpoint

2016-10-14 06:00

GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.
IDP road shows
The new GKM council started its 2016 IDP road shows on 12 October. This important platform is for the community and stakeholders to put their needs across to council.
The IDP is an important document that is used to uphold the 1955 Freedom Charter, which said, among other things, “the people shall govern”.
Community priorities will influence the municipality’s 2017/2018 budgeting process. Government allows us to budget according to the needs of the people because the money that is used for service delivery belongs to the public.
We encourage people to attend these meetings not only as observers, but to make a positive contribution. Mayor Cllr Bheki Mtolo will be leading the municipal delegation that will visit all GKM wards. Make sure you pay attention to the media and a municipal vehicle will be going around with a loudspeaker to remind wards about the dates of the meeting.

Save water, save lives
The people of Kokstad are once again, reminded to use water carefully because the drought is not over. We haven’t received enough rain to take us above the “red line” in terms of water shortage, and this challenge is a national concern.
We appeal to people to stick to water-saving tips that were issued by Harry Gwala District Municipality. Report water leaks to the municipality or your ward councillor. We also encourage people to continue harvesting rain water especially those who can afford to buy Jojo tanks, however, don’t forget to follow water purification methods before you drink tank water. Until we get sufficient rain this challenge will remain with us and we must be patient with Harry Gwala District Municipality’s water restrictions because it is done to help us.
As we know without water, there is no life.
