Greater Kokstad Municipality viewpoint

2016-11-04 06:00

GREETINGS to the people of Kosktad.
Election of ward committees

The municipality will start the election of ward committees soon in order to deepen public participation. Ward committees are an important stakeholder in the municipality because they serve as a liaison between the councillor and the community.
The Office of the Speaker is preparing the dates of the elections in your ward and the community is encouraged to participate in this process. Democracy allows us to participate in these structures and positively contribute to the decisions of government. You are encouraged to stay alert because the Office of the Speaker will be announcing dates soon and we hope you will be part of the process.

2016 Final examinations

As the municipality we have already sent our wishes to our Grade 12 pupils who are writing exams. It is important to also wish the best of luck to other grades because they are also important people who count towards the future of Kokstad.

They may think we are only concentrate on Grade 12, but must realise they are equally important to us as government. We must thank the teachers who have been preparing pupils for the year-end exams since January. It is up to them now to take one step closer to their destination. From them we are expecting doctors, engineers, accountants and other scarce skills careers and we see potential leaders in them. They represent the future of Kokstad. Please work hard now and all the best for 2016 examinations.

Respect the rules of the road

As we slowly approach the festive season it is disturbing to see drivers who don’t respect and obey the rules of the road. When driving to Kokstad you are confronted by the mist and wet roads. I urge the drivers to refrain from speeding especially under these conditions. Play your part in building accident-free roads in South Africa. Respect the rules or face the music.

I also urge law enforcement to be vigilant in dealing with the offenders on our roads. We cannot allow a situation where it is the norm that people die on the roads, especially over the Christmas holidays.
Siyaqhuba enkosi.
