Greater Kokstad Municipality viewpoint

2017-01-13 06:01

GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.
Sad death of GKM councillor
May I take this opportunity and greet the people of Kokstad in 2017.
We are back from the holidays and ready to serve our community with dignity. I hope everyone is ready to take Kokstad forward.
The municipality was saddened by the death of Councillor Luvuyo Ndyebo, a PR Councillor representing Economic Freedom Fighters in the Greater Kokstad Municipality Council.
What a painful way to start the year. His death came when the new council was beginning to understand the operations of the municipality and this is a great loss to the municipality and the community of Kokstad.
It was the first time that we have lost a sitting councillor and it’s a painful experience.
Let me pass our condolences to his family, the GKM Council, EFF and the community of Kokstad, may his soul rest in peace.

2017 Initiative ceremony held

On Friday 6 January we hosted another edition of the homecoming initiation ceremony. The event was held at the Shayamoya sports grounds and was officiated by King Goodwill Zwelithini.
Also present was the KZN Acting Premier Sihle Zikalala, the National Deputy Minister for Cogta responsible for traditional affairs Obed Bapela, the KZN MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, the KZN MEC for Cogta Nomsa Dube-Ncube, the KZN MEC for Social Development, Weziwe Thusi, Harry Gwala District Mayor Cllr Mluleki Ndobe, GKM Mayor Cllr Bheki Mtolo, mayors and councillors from other Harry Gwala municipalities.
The king emphasised the importance of the ceremony in nation building, moral regeneration, war against diseases and economic development in KwaZulu-Natal. The event was a success despite the bad weather. We hope to see future events growing and generating the economy and growing tourism in our town.

GKM midterm budget adjustment for 2016/2017

The municipality is currently doing the midterm budget adjustment for the financial year 2016/2017 where we look at the budget against our annual set targets.
As soon as we have completed that exercise the adjusted budget will be tabled by the mayor to council for adoption and will be published in the media for public consumption.
Siyaqhuba nango 2017. Enkosi.
