THE Riverview Stadium in Kokstad was a hive of activity last Saturday as East Griqualand communities took part in the annual Griqua Cultural Festival.

It began with a marching band leading people from town to the stadium. A music group from Durban and local musicians performed and festival goers included members of a senior citizens club in Kokstad.

Chairperson of the Griqua Traditional Council, Gabriel Marais said the festival is about celebrating the culture and tradition of Griqua people.

“We want people to be aware that we have a culture and our young people must realise where we come from. Next year we will bring more entertainment groups to the festival,” said Marais.

Officials from the Department of Arts and Culture, mayor of Greater Kokstad Municipality, Bheki Mtolo and his deputy, Karen Walker attended.
