MANY young people will be attending events across the country to celebrate Youth Day today, and Griqua Traditional Council in Kokstad is hosting a youth conference as part of the celebrations at Shayamoya Eco Park today.

Griqua Traditional Council chairperson Gabriel Marais said the aim of the conference is to bring young people together to speak in one voice about youth challenges.

He said young people will be given a platform to raise their concerns.

“The council wants to establish a forum of young people where they will discuss teenage pregnancy and drug use.
“The forum will also help young people to get job opportunities and acquire skills,” said Marais.

Last weekend, Griqua Traditional Council hosted an event as part of Youth Month celebrations at the Kokstad Community Hall and the band, Reality, performed.

According to Marais many activities are being provided for young people this month.
He said stakeholders need to come together to rescue young people from drugs and teenage pregnancy.
