GREATER Kokstad Municipality (GKM) mayor, Bheki Mtolo said that he is pleased with the Growth and Development Summit that was held in Kokstad City Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The summit was meant to attract investors to grow local economy and create partnerships to develop collaboration between Government and private sectors.

It was attended by local farmers, local businesses, financial institutions, South African Local Government Authority, Department of Environmental Affairs and Economic Development and Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

During the summit, the GKM chief financial office manager, Thando Mketsu said that the municipality wants to be ranked with leading cities in the country. “We want more jobs to be created for the benefits of the people of Kokstad and improve infrastructure. We want to find ways to get more funds to improve infrastructure in the CBD,” said Mkestu.

Mtolo was pleased about the attendance of local farmers who he said are playing a role in the growth of the local economy.

“There are many presentations that have been made in the summit and I am hoping for the betterment of Kokstad. We need more investors to support local SMMEs and entrepreneurs,” said Mtolo.

Mayors from neighbouring municipalities also attended the summit.
