LAST Saturday, Harry Gwala District Netball Association selected the district male netball squad to play in the national championships in Durban in September.

Berberto Mnikina who manages the male squad said that there will be training sessions for the team to win in the championships.

“It is going to be the first time a male team participates in the national championships. Last year, the team lost in the quarter finals after playing in the cluster level at Ugu
District,” said Mnikina.

The district netball association selected the U21 squad and seniors who will play in the Spar National Championships in Port Elizabeth on July 17. Simphiwe Cele from the district association said that in previous years, the Spar National Championships was usually played in August as part of celebrating Women’s Month, but this year the games were moved to July.

“In August, most teams will be participating in the Netball Diamond Challenge and will send district players if selected,” said Cele.

Cele thanked the Department of Arts and Culture from Harry Gwala District for supporting the district netball association and called for other businesses to sponsor netball.
