MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo visited the KwaMbotho area to inform the community about the Adolescent and Youth Friendly Health Services offered at Mbotho Clinic.

This service aims to ensure that young people between 10 years and 24 years receive health-care services in a manner that is user-friendly, ensuring that their needs are addressed efficiently and timeously.

This youth-friendly concept was first established by Dhlomo in 2014 as a means to provide comprehensive and integrated sexual and reproductive health services, to promote the testing and treatment for HIV/Aids, TB as well as non-communicable diseases, and to caution against substance abuse and violence.

Dhlomo informed the community that Mbotho Clinic has a trained practitioner whose sole responsibility is to deal with adolescent clients.

“This clinic has dedicated times for adolescents and youth from Monday to Friday between 3 pm and 4 pm.

“During this ‘happy hour’, dedicated facility staff members will provide young clients an opportunity to interact with health-care workers, ask questions freely and be able to receive health services without the fear of being judged or seen by an elderly from their community,” said Dhlomo.

He said the service also entails a fast-queuing system for pupils who arrive wearing their school uniform so that they can be attended to first and be free to go back to school timeously.
