Hostilities in youth league

2016-09-16 06:00

THE African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Harry Gwala says it is going to take disciplinary action against regional deputy secretary Xolo Mhlongo following a regional executive committee meeting recently.

In a statement released by league spokesperson Sibusiso Phuzi, Mhlongo failed to answer questions about a letter that he wrote to the Fever on behalf of the league expressing support for regional chair Zamo Nxumalo following a vote of no confidence that was brought against him.

In the letter published on 9 September, Mhlongo said regional executive committee members have a full confidence in the leadership of the ANC in Harry Gwala, including Nxumalo.

At a meeting that was held at regional offices in Ixopo, Mhlongo is accused of keeping regional executive members in the dark about his intentions of writing the letter. Phuzi said the regional meeting was about political overview and members of the executive committee also welcomed reports.

“Comrade Mhlongo was uneasy during the meeting and he exploded with anger when he was asked about the letter.

“He [Mhlongo] abandoned the meeting and other members were astonished by his behavior.”

Phuzi said internal disciplinary processes are going to be taken against Mhlongo.

Asked for comment, Mhlongo denied that he left the meeting because of failing to answer questions about the letter. He said he left the meeting because he was not happy about the agenda.

Phuzi added that some members of the ruling party are dividing the league since it is preparing for a conference. He accused Mhlongo of siding with regional chairperson. “The meeting resolved that processes of removing Mhlongo from Nxumalo’s pocket will be taken.”
