AS part of identifying local talent in boxing, the Manqoba Mngqithi Foundation recently introduced boxing games in the Harry Gwala District.

With the support of the foundation, boxers from Umzimkhulu participated in matches last weekend to prepare for the Harry Gwala District boxing games, being held on September 15.

The foundation’s secretary, Mveli Hloba, said a boxing tournament will be played by Harry Gwala District, Alfred Nzo and Ugu District boxers in Durban on October 20 under the theme “fighting for water”. The winner of the tournament will be awarded a big water reservoir for their community.

This weekend, boxers from Alfred Nzo District will be fighting to prepare for the tournament and punching bags will be handed over by sponsors.

“This is part of developing boxing in rural areas, therefore all young boys and girls who aspire to be professional boxers in the future must please attend these boxing games,” said Hloba.

Greater Kokstad Boxing Federation secretary Jean Nyembezi said Kokstad boxers were very enthusiastic about the sport.
