THE Department of Correctional Services chaplain in the Kokstad Management Area, Bongani Ndlovu, said HIV-positive inmates are getting support from social workers, and campaigns about the prevention of the disease are being held.

On Tuesday Ndlovu spoke to Fever at a prayer session conducted by pastors, and attended by Department of Correctional Service officials and inmates in Kokstad Medium Correctional Centre in commemoration of 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children campaign and World Aids Day.

“There are inmates who are HIV positive and we give them support and tell them it is not the end of life to live with the disease. They are also encouraged by social workers not to lose hope, and get treatment.”

He said support groups have also been established for inmates living with HIV, TB and other diseases.

Other items addressed included road accidents, substance abuse and families.
