JAZZ artist Shomon Daniel performed at a farewell for 44 Grade 9 pupils, hosted by Amawushe Junior Secondary School in Umzimkhulu on 29 June, and encouraged them to chase their dreams instead of focusing on “useless things”.
The pupils will be doing Grade 10 next year at other schools.

The school has a partnership with St Mary’s University in London to exchange cultures and as a result the school is to send some pupils to London to show introduce their culture and learn about other cultures.

Principal Mqondisi Dlamini encouraged parents to participate in all school events.

Dlamini said the school has won many competitions through the support of parents, school government body and government departments.

Grade 9 pupil, Asisipho Jaca represented South Africa in Tanzania in a programme organised by the Department of Environmental Affairs and the school honoured Asisipho at the farewell.

“The school contributes to all programmes that promote green the environment initiative by the Department of Environmental Affairs,” said Dlamini.

The school issued certificates of appreciation to a local chief, Zwelidumile Bly, after he played a positive role in the development of the school.
Parent Monwabisi Sekete was thanked for being supportive in all the school programmes and was awarded a certificate of appreciation.
At the event bursary forms were distributed by government department staff to Grade 9 pupils, who were told to choose careers that are right for them after matric.

Ten pupils from underprivileged homes were given new school uniforms by a local businessman.
