HARD work and dedication are what keep Kokstad artist Siviwe Nkanyuza (24) going as he pursues his dreams in the City of Gold.

Popularly known as “Kimosabe”, Nkanyuza, who was nominated for a South African Music Award (Sama) last year, is set to release his debut album before the end of this month.

Nkanyuza is also international music streaming service Deezer’s African pick for 2018. Artists involved in the initiative receive profile development, play-listing support and take part in creative artist marketing campaigns.

Nkanyuza was picked as the stand-out act from the continent.

“I left Kokstad to study media but because of a lack of funds I dropped out and focused on my music career. It was not easy for me to break into the music industry; dedication and hard work are behind my success,” said Nkanyuza.

“I started singing at home in Kokstad with my younger brother Lwandile when I was 13 years old. My first big achievement was in 2012 when I produced Ifani’s song Ingoma Ezimnandi and wrote songs for many other artists in Johannesburg,” said Nkanyuza.

Last year, Nkanyuza was recruited by David Gresham Records who produced his hit single Wolves in which he collaborated with DJ Clock. The song was nominated at the 2017 South African Music Awards.

“To market my talent, I use social media and approach well-known artists to open doors for me.”
