ON Wednesday the Greater

Municipality started a “clean-up” of Kokstad and townships and the Kokstad Deputy Mayor Karen Walker was part of it.
Mayor Bheki Mtolo said every Wednesday he and the community will pick up litter, close drains, fix street lights and cut grass.

“Councillors and municipal employees are going to participate in the community clean-up cam- paign for three hours until Jesus comes.”

The campaign started in Twistvalley and next Wednesday will move to

St John’s Street
. Before the campaign began Mtolo spoke to the community at the Kokstad Community Hall and some Community Work Programme employees, who clean Kokstad, complained at the meeting that they only earn R650 a month, which is “not enough”.

They also complained about having to work without rain- coats.
Mtolo said CWP workers are employed under Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs and their problems will be attended to soon.

Freddie Kriel, a Twistvalley resident thanked the municipality for launching the campaign.
